Double Hung Replacement Windows Features:

OUTSIDE VIEW
Double Hung Replacement Windows consists of two operating sashes usually in a rectangular frame, in which both the upper and lower sashes can be slid up and down.
Balance System
The mechanisms used to allow smooth and effortless sash operation. Our Block and Tackle Balance Systems are individualized for each double hung replacement windows size and weight of sash. No matter what size the sash is homeowners will be able to be operate the window with one hand. This counterbalance mechanism holds the sash in place, where you set the windows sash - whether open one inch or fully opened - the sash stays right where you want it.
Balance Shoe Locks
This feature is NOT found on many double hung replacement windows. Balance shoe locks keep both sashes in place while the sash is tilted-in for cleaning. This features prevents the sash from falling out. If (when cleaning) the sash on either end does not stay level it can fall out, thus creating a major hazard. Just 6 degrees out of level can create this danger. Bristol double hung replacement windows eliminate this condition for happening. Too remove the sashes entirely the lock "cap" removes easily and allows sash removal from the window frame safely. This feature also allows for easy sash replacement and maximum egress ability.
Sash Pivot Pins
Adhered to the bottom of each double hung sash and securely fitted into a balance shoe providing the means to tilt-in each sash and hold the sash in place while cleaning. Our Pivot Pins are constructed of titanium strength quality material to prevent breakage and sash damage. We do not use U-channel pivot pins - a standard in the replacement window industry - NOT USED IN BRISTOL WINDOWS.

Wind-Jammer Sash Rails
A feature found only on the highest quality built replacement windows. With only a small handful of replacement window manufacturers using this technology which is inside the outer perimeter of the vertical sash rail. Wind-Jammers inside the vertical sash rails expand into the master frame opening when the sash is closed. Thus creating a unique air and water tight barrier. Expandable Wind-Jammers allow our double hung (and slider window) replacement windows to have equal-lite sash sizing. Other manufacturers must use a "step-down" master frame and sash combination surrounded with fuzzy weather-stripping to achieve similar air and water tightness while creating un-equal sash sizing. The benefit of this technology is easily understood by homeowners since weather-stripping flattens and wears out, while Wind-Jammers silently to their job and never wear out.
Ventilation Lock
Sometimes referred as infant child locks however due to insurance liabilities manufacturers stay clear of using this term or statement. This mechanism is utilized to allow the bottom sash to be raised minimally and allow air ventilation as well as stopping the movement of the sash from the outside or inside. In other words the window can be opened and still be relatively secured in an open but secured position.
Weather Stripping
This material combined of both pile fibers and stiff but flexible fin material is applied to the moveable vinyl rails and master frame pieces that assures an airtight fitting of rails to frame pieces. Our replacement windows are manufactured with replaceable weather stripping (fin-seal) in key operational areas for easy replacing when and if it is ever needed. Do to Bristol's proprietary extrusions and Wind-Jammer technology it uses the least amount of weather stripping as compared to other replacement windows.
Full Inter-Lock Meeting Rail
Our double hung replacement windows have NO "fuzz plugs" where the sashes' interlock meets the master frame. Our inter-lock goes from master frame to master frame without having to use weather stripping or fuzz plugs for added thermal efficiency. The benefit of this feature besides its air and water tightness gives the Bristol Window a clean look at all times, unlike fuzz plugs that attract dust and dirt which appear very noticeably.
PVC Virgin Vinyl - Lead Free
Homeowners must know more then just features, benefits and cost. They also need to take into account "where the products material comes from, make sure to ask this question. The facts are - many Chinese windows made of PVC do in fact contain lead – as do many European vinyl extrusions. Just Triple Pane Windows and Bristol uses only "lead-free" PVC Virgin Vinyl. Vinyl has been found to be the best window frame material since the earlier 80's. It's stable chemical composition allows vinyl to stand up in most any enviornment. Did you know, vinyl is used predominately in areas like Palm Springs, California where summer temperatures hit 118 degrees between late June to early September ever year. Vinyl is best because it is non-conductive and maintenance free. However for windows vinyl frames must be re-enforced since vinyl can be flexible. Our vinyl replacement windows are all reinforced with HDR. Bristol Windows never screw or fasten our hardware to vinyl - only too our reinforcement HDR Bar inside the master frame and sashes.
Triple Glazed - Triple Pane Glass is Standard
Triple glazing means there are three materials glazed together, this can include "heat-mirror" windows. Heat mirror is a suspended film with low-E properties on the film. Unlike our vinyl replacement windows we use 3 panes of "float" glass. This does make the sash a bit heavier, however it also blocks much of the outside noise - something heat-mirror does not do. Also, heat mirror has been found to move at different speeds then its vinyl frame when it expands and contracts with temperature changes, thus causing a waviness to the film. Heat-mirror in an in-home demonstration gives excellent energy efficient numbers - this all changes when the product is exposed to the elements and change of seasons over time. The energy efficiency of Bristol's three panes of glass in an IG Unit never changes.
One Inch Glass Thickness
Here is an important issue. Many if not most manufacturers of vinyl replacement windows DO NOT USE a one inch glass space nor do these manufacturers purchase vinyl lineals (extrusions) that would even accept a one inch IG Unit (Insulated Glass Unit). Cheap replacement windows have thicknesses which fall between 1/4 to 3/4 inch. While some other replacement windows fall between 7/8 to 13/16 inches. Science has proven with out doubt to stop energy loss from "conduction" and "thermal radiation" 1 to 1 1/8 inches is best - THIS IS A PROVEN FACT.
